Neuromodulation / Spinal Cord Stimulation

What is spinal cord stimulation? Spinal cord stimulation is a therapeutic procedure to relieve chronic pain conditions from people who have failed back surgery syndrome, peripheral neuropathy, chronic neck and back pain, sciatic, complex regional pain syndrome among many other nerve related pain conditions.
SCS  delivers low-level electrical signals to the spinal cord or to specific nerves to block pain signals from reaching the brain.  A spinal cord stimulator (SCS) device is surgically placed under your skin and sends a mild electric current to your spinal cord. The implant is done as an outpatient procedure which is completed in 35 - 45 minutes. Recovery time is minimal. Unlike most surgical procedures, spinal cord stimulation therapy is reversible. If a person decides at any time to discontinue the therapy, the electrical contacts, wires, and generator can all be removed and there are no permanent changes to the spine. At Physical Medicine & Spine Center we use the latest technology in SCS from Boston Scientific & Medtronic.

The StimQ PNS (Peripheral Nerve Stimulator) System treats chronic pain by targeting the peripheral nerve causing the chronic pain directly. The device is inserted through a needle sized incision, and can be placed to stimulate any peripheral nerve below the neck. The StimQ PNS System virtually eliminated the risk associated with implanted batteries and having toxic materials in your body. Pain relief can be achieved with a wireless miniature stimulator. Insurance payors require a trial to be performed before the device is implanted permanently to determine if it is effective for your pain relief.
